Freni e Frizioni is the type of bar that makes us wish we lived in Rome. Swarming with young hip locals, this is the place to see and be seen any night of the week. The crowd is fun, the atmosphere is vibrant, and the drinks will literally knock your socks off.
The bar is a converted garage – hence the name translating to “brakes and clutches.” However, the space is completed transformed into a clean and edgy environment with chandeliers danging from the ceiling and modern photographs framed on the wall. The art here is so cool, you’ll want to steal it to show off to all your friends back home. And then there’s the music. Expect to hear alternative and indie jams blasting from the speakers. We thoroughly The XX albums playing from front to back during our visit.
The crowd from the bar spills out onto the massive terrace outside that’s buzzing with social tourists mingling with trendy locals. Everyone here seems to be grinning from ear to ear, probably due to the well-priced drinks ranging from around 7€ to 9€. If you’re here between 7 and 10 pm, the price of one drink also includes access to their to die for vegetarian buffet. Dig into the salads, couscous, hummus, and piles fresh fruits and veggies. Yes, the options are actually healthy, so you can forgive yourself for devouring that huge plate of pasta and bread during lunch.
The bartenders here know their stuff, too. See that giant piece of paper that looks like a quirky comic strip? That’s the menu. You can’t go wrong ordering any of these cocktails, but our favorite is by far the Cristian’s Passion. Vodka, strawberry puree, St. Germain, lemon juice, and oozing with fresh passion fruit. This drink is a perfect balance of sour and sweet. There are a ton of other drinks on the menu if this doesn’t suit your taste buds, so stay for a while and sip on a few. We promise you won’t want to leave.
