CARRY-ON ESSENTIALS

For me, packing light isn’t really an option. I struggle with editing down my normal beauty routine and endless options of outfits within my closet. However, I never leave home without these necessary staples in my carry-on.

1 / STORAGE FOR SMALL ITEMS. 2 / DRY SHAMPOO. 3 / HAIR SPRAY. 4 / LIP EXFOLIATING TREATMENT. 5 / CC CREAM. 6 / CUTE PASSPORT CASE. 7 / HAND CREAM. 8 / NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES. 9 / BRONZING POWDER. 10 / TINTED LIP BALM. 11 / MAKE-UP WIPES. 12 / HYDRATING MASK. 13 / MASCARA. 14 / FIRMING NIGHT GEL. 15 / MAKE-UP BRUSH. 16 / HANDHELD MIRROR. 17 / MINTS. 18/ WATER BOTTLE. 19 / SOCKS. 20 / PILL BOX. 21 / COMB. 22 / BRUSH.

Organization is a key, so I always carry a smaller purse to fit inside my carry-on. This extra storage is perfect for chargers, mirrors, mints, and other items I wouldn’t want getting lost at the bottom of my bag. Even when I travel domestically, I bring along my passport as a back up in case I lose my ID. Yes, I do have an issue with misplacing things every once in a while, so I try to have a plan just in case! A cute passport cover can make this regular travel item a little more fun and personal. Mine is from Anthropologie, but you can find them at any large retailer. I’m also slightly paranoid when it comes to checking a bag, so I always pack at least one outfit to get me through in case of lost luggage. For an extra safety net, pack your make-up and any valuable jewelry in your carry-on bag as well.

During the flight, I normally have difficulty falling asleep. My typical routine involves slipping on a pair of warm socks, ordering a hot tea (or glass of wine), and zoning out. I always bring a good book to read, download a movie on my iPad to watch, or create a new playlist to listen to while I relax. Noise cancelling headphones are a must when traveling, especially if you’re trying to catch some shut-eye. I’m currently obsessing over the Frends headphones (pictured above). They come in a few different colorways, but the white and gold are my favorite.

Another high priority? My beauty routine. Flying tends to leave my skin looking dull, my lips chapped, and my hair flat. Luckily, there are some pretty great travel sized products on the market to combat these issues. You can’t go wrong with the extensive selection at Sephora, my personal go-to. Their exfoliating make-up wipes are great for freshening up on longer flights. Before landing, make your way to the ladies room to reapply. All you’ll need for a quick fix is some moisturizer, CC cream, bronzer, mascara, and lip tint. If your lips are feeling chapped, we feel your pain. Try an exfoliating treatment before applying tint or gloss for smoother and softer lips. Don’t forget to pack dry shampoo and hairspray to freshen up your do. Depending on your hair type, you’ll want to pack a comb, brush, or both to ensure that you don’t look like you just rolled out of bed upon landing.

Once I arrive at my destination, I ensure that I keep up the good work on the beauty routine. Try an overnight mask to brighten up your skin after the flight. My personal choice is the Sleep Tight gel from Farmacy. I received this as a free sample from Sephora, and I can’t get enough. It leaves my skin soft without getting greasy, and I wake up looking completely refreshed. The smell is soothing and not overbearing, which I also love. It’s crucial to bring along on any excursion, and I highly recommend it.

We always love trying new products or improving our travel routines, and we’d love to hear from you! What’s in your carry-on?
